Rob Sand for Iowa

5/19/2026

DES MOINES, IA – Today, Rob Sand’s campaign for governor launched a third ad as part of a statewide 6-figure ad buy across all platforms – TV, streaming, digital – titled “Uncovered.” The ad details Rob’s track record as Iowa’s State Auditor, uncovering record amounts of misspent tax money and holding corrupt public officials accountable, and his call for mandatory prison time for tax thieves.

WATCH:

“In my first term as Auditor, I uncovered a record amount of misspent tax dollars. Government insiders responded by passing a bill stripping our office of its powers, making it harder for us to uncover waste, fraud, and abuse. That’s not public service, it’s politics – and Iowans are sick and tired of it,” said candidate for governor Rob Sand. “I’ll bring my same commitment to protecting tax dollars to the governor’s office, and will work to make sure tax thieves and corrupt public officials face consequences, not get a free pass. Unlike our current leaders, I believe stealing is bad, and that stealing from taxpayers should be unacceptable.”

In his first term as Auditor, Rob uncovered more waste, fraud, and abuse in a single term than any other State Auditor in Iowa history, and has uncovered millions of dollars in misspent money since taking office. In his first term, Rob coined PIE – the Public Innovations and Efficiencies program, which awards cities, counties, and school districts across the state for their efficiency efforts. Rob’s program is so effective that all Iowa counties are participants, and it has been copied in two other states – including by the Republican State Auditor of Mississippi. Every year Rob has introduced legislation calling for mandatory jail time for tax thieves, which was also a key policy proposal in his “Accountability for All” plan.
