Rob Sand for Iowa

4/22/2026

DAVENPORT, IA – Earlier this month, candidate for governor Rob Sand sat down in-studio with WQAD8 to discuss his “Accountability for All” plan as part of his “Truer Better Agenda,” a set of common-sense proposals to restore transparency, integrity, and accountability to Iowa’s government after a decade of one-party rule that has left Iowa families behind.

Throughout his campaign for governor, Rob has heard from Iowans in all corners of the state about the effects of our broken political system that has left us dead last in economic growth, middle of the pack for our public schools, and first in cancer growth. The “Accountability for All” plan takes practical steps to focus on public service, not politics, and deliver the change that Iowans have demanded after ten years of one-party control. During the interview, Rob highlighted features of his plan, many of which have broad, bipartisan support both across the state of Iowa and in the legislature.

  • “These are things that the vast majority of Iowans regardless of their political persuasion can agree upon. We are talking about term limits, right? That you should have to pass a civics test before you get elected to office. That people who steal large amounts of money from taxpayers should be required to go to prison. This is common sense stuff.”

  • “You can fix your roof, but if your house has a broken foundation, you’re just going to have to replace the roof again later and sooner. We have fundamental issues with our political system, and its consistent failure to solve problems. And if we don’t address the actual mechanics of the system itself, then it’s harder for us to address the other issues that we’re facing.”

  • “Let’s focus on a bunch of stuff where people in both parties agree. Let’s get it done. Let’s make sure that we have public service, not politics. That we have people focusing on serving Iowans, not serving insiders and special interest groups.”

  • “When you get to the point where your state is 50th for economic growth, number one for cancer growth, and the people in charge are spending their time literally making it harder for the state auditor to find misspent money, time for change.”

  • “Last year, we had 10,000 people come to our town halls. 10,000. I think that people are hungry for change and they want to be involved. If you actually give them an opportunity and say, Hey, we’re going to have a conversation about the future of Iowa. It’s going to be this day, this time. They will sign up and they will turn out.”
