Rob Sand for Iowa

10/6/2025

Rob Sand: “I think we need to focus on two things: affordability for Iowans, and accountability for government officials.”

DES MOINES, IA – Earlier this month, candidate for governor Rob Sand sat down with WQAD’s Jon Diaz in Davenport to talk about his campaign, how he’s able to draw support from Republicans, independents, and Democrats alike, and his commitment to always putting Iowans first.

During the interview, Rob highlighted his focus on making life more affordable for Iowans and restoring accountability in state government. From restoring the Auditor’s office’s authority to root out waste and misspent tax dollars to tackling rising utility costs, Rob made it clear that his campaign is about delivering real results for everyday Iowans — not insiders and special interests.

Key Quotes:

  • “I picked the Democratic Party because I think that in my faith, Jesus is all about the little guy. The Democratic Party, at its best, is about the little guy.”

  • “To me, the job is you’re serving the whole state of Iowa. That’s why the yard signs say ‘Governor for All.’ Whoever the President is, you look at what they want to do, and you ask, is this the right thing to do? Is it good for Iowa? And if it is, you say, ‘okay, we’ll do it.” But if it’s not, then you say, ‘okay, that’s bad. We shouldn’t be doing that.’”

  • “I think we need to focus on two things: affordability for Iowans, and accountability for government officials.”

  • “Our economy is 49th in the country, our cancer growth rate is number one, and our public school system, which, when I was growing up in Decorah, was the crown jewel of the entire country, is just in the middle of the pack. I’m vetoing culture war bills. Send me laws that are going to improve our economy in the state of Iowa, lower costs for Iowans, improve our education system, improve our health, lower our cancer rate, clean up our water.”
