Rob Sand for Iowa

8/26/2025

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA – Last Thursday, candidate for governor Rob Sand sat down with The Gazette as the special guest on their Pints & Politics podcast. During the conversation, Rob discussed his vision for the future of Iowa, the importance of putting public service over politics, and answered questions on the issues Iowans care most about.

And while it wasn’t one of Rob’s town halls, he did something he always does — bringing the 250 people in the audience together to sing the first verse of America the Beautiful.

Listeners can catch the full episode HERE or read key quotes below:

  • “I think people are tired of the direction of the state of Iowa, but it’s bigger than that. I think people are tired of the direction of politics. We have a slogan in this campaign…It’s the heart of this campaign, and I think this is what people need. The idea is not redder or bluer, but better and truer.”

  • “It’s not Democrats versus Republicans, it’s public servants versus politicians, it’s insiders versus outsiders, it’s somebody who wants the government to actually be accountable and do what it should be doing…and I want to have accountability, period.”

  • “I picked the Democratic party for reasons… my faith is really important to me, I think Jesus is for the little guy, and I think at its best, the Democratic Party is for the little guy.”

  • “I approach collaboration openly, and with joy. I love working with people that I disagree with, because it’s much more fun to find an area of agreement, because it’s a surprise. Surprises are fun.”

  • “When we work together, we get better outcomes.”

  • “If we can have those moments, we start with one moment like [singing America the Beautiful together], and find a few more, we can find a way through the divisiveness and the bile and the anger that is defining the politics that we have right now, to a place where again, we are not focused on redder or bluer but focused on better and truer.”
