The Daily Nonpareil: Rob Sand town hall in Council Bluffs draws residents across party lines
Rob Sand: “We are on the journey of making our political culture in the state of Iowa something that is closer to collaboration and kindness than to corrosion.”
COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA – On Tuesday, candidate for governor Rob Sand made his 17th stop of his annual 100 Town Hall Tour, stopping at Elks Lodge #531 in Council Bluffs. As The Daily Nonpareil reported, Rob’s visit was “an event that drew residents across political party lines.”
Rob “kicked off the event by asking attendees to raise their hand when their respective political party affiliation was called,” which he does at every town hall tour stop, and which The Daily Nonpareil reports “was representative of a bigger goal during Sand’s run for governor — namely, to get everyone working together again.”

- Democrat Rob Sand hosted a town hall in Council Bluffs to promote his run for governor, an event that drew residents across political party lines.
- “We don’t expect people to go and listen to someone who’s on the other side, right? Because most of the party apparatus for both parties wants us to demonize people that belong to the other party” Sand said. “We will not do that. We’ll welcome them.”
- “We are on the journey of making our political culture in the state of Iowa something that is closer to collaboration and kindness than to corrosion,” Sand said. “I want an Iowa where people can feel comfortable disagreeing, where people can go to Thanksgiving and look forward to seeing everyone.”
- Sand believes that the first steps in achieving these goals is to hold officials accountable and to balance the government.
- “I think a big piece of this is getting the power of government refocused on actually serving regular Iowans,” Sand said. “If we have the office of the governor held by a different party than holds the majority in the Legislature, we’re gonna have to work together. We don’t have any other option.”
- “The signature achievement of this governor in this Legislature is to pass a private school vouchers bill that has next to no rules for how private schools spend your money and no accountability for it,” Sand said. “I’m disgusted by the idea that we are not supporting Iowa public schools.”
- “I like to say not redder or bluer, but better and truer,” Sand said. “There’s going to be a lot of people in this race. I’m going to tell people who I am. I’m not going to deviate from who I am.”
