Rob Sand for Iowa

4/1/2026

DES MOINES, IA – A new editorial in The Gazette outlines the state of the governor’s race in Iowa and how Rob Sand’s strengths as a candidate has been “no day at the beach” for his opponents and the Iowa Republican Party. As The Gazette notes, their attacks keep “bouncing off Sand like he’s rubber,” and they’ve had to resort to recycled, dishonest attacks all while Rob stays laser-focused on the issues that matter to all Iowans – like lowering costs, improving Iowa’s public schools, and addressing the state’s sky-high cancer rates.

Rob’s focus on putting public service over politics and holding government accountable appeals to Iowans across the state and the political spectrum. Just this week, Rob’s announced his first policy plan, “Accountability for All,” which includes proposals to hold government insiders accountable and restore transparency, integrity, and accountability to Iowa government. The Gazette Editorial: Running against Sand is no day at the beach for GOP

  • Then Republicans ran into Democrat Rob Sand, who is running for governor. All their best attacks are bouncing off Sand like he’s rubber and they’re glue.

  • Sand has been traveling the state cultivating an image as a problem-solver who cares little for partisan labeling. Republican gubernatorial frontrunner Randy Feenstra is spending his time trying to pull out of a downward spiral.

  • Sand wants prison time for anyone who swindles taxpayers and would ban elected officials from trading stocks. He wants term limits, a mandatory retirement age for state officials, and a mandate that all legislators take cognitive and civics tests.

  • Instead of engaging Sand on issues, Republicans opted for a dishonest attack.

  • Sand makes more than a few Democrats queasy. But he thinks building a broad coalition is more important.

  • Maybe Sand wins and maybe he doesn’t. But watching Republicans repeatedly swing and miss is worth the ticket price. Grab some popcorn.
