SANBORN, IA – Last week, nominee for lieutenant governor Dave Muhlbauer attended an event hosted by the Tallgrass Cattle Company in partnership with the Iowa Beef Center at Iowa State University and South Dakota State University’s Beef Extension. The event highlighted new technology and techniques for cattle farmers, and gave Dave an opportunity to meet with fellow cattle farmers–including the O’Brien County Cattlemen’s Association–about the importance of Iowa’s farm economy and his own experience as a family farmer and cattleman.

N’West Iowa Review: Tallgrass Cattle and Getting Farms host technology event

  • The Iowa Beef Center at Iowa State University in Ames and South Dakota State University Beef Extension in Brookings partnered Thursday with Aaron Alons of Tallgrass Cattle Company of rural Sanborn at Getting Farms northwest of Sanborn to showcase new technology and data techniques for cattle farmers.

  • As attendees mingled and looked at the technology on display, Crawford County supervisor Dave Muhlbauer made an appearance and spoke with producers about the beef and cattle industry, hearing their questions and concerns.

  • Muhlbauer is a fifth-generation farmer and Democrat Rob Sand’s pick for lieutenant governor in the November election.

  • “It’s important for farmers to see how other people are doing things, brainstorming and getting ideas together,” Muhlbauer said. “Because every farm is unique to itself, but when you can share good ideas, success stories and challenges, it just helps us all be more successful.”

  • He said Iowa needs to have younger generations get involved in family farm operations.

  • “Use that as a part of our practice here in Iowa,” Muhlbauer said. “Our cow herd is at historic lows, and to see diversity in farming gives us more tools and helps us all be successful.”
