“Resisting Division and Promoting Growth.” Rob Sand Visits Sioux City as Part of 100 Town Hall Tour
SIOUX CITY, IA – On Monday, candidate for governor Rob Sand brought his 100 Town Hall Tour to Sioux City. This marked Rob’s 19th stop on the tour, with more than 150 Iowans gathered to talk about what’s working, what’s not, and how to fix it.
Rob pointed to Iowa’s poor standings and outlook, including being ranked 49th in economic growth, 48th in personal income growth, and first in cancer growth rate, and made the case for new leadership that brings people together and puts results over politics.

Sioux City Journal: ‘We’re 49th in economic growth’: Iowa gubernatorial hopeful Rob Sand faults state leadership

“If you’ve ever wondered, ‘What would it be like to be a part of something really big?’ — You’re an hour into it,” Iowa State Auditor and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Rob Sand said at the end of a town hall meeting Monday at a Sioux City union hall.
-
“We’re 49th in economic growth, we’re 48th in personal income growth and we are No. 1 for the growth rate of cancer,” he said. “Meanwhile, the folks down in Des Moines are spending their time literally figuring out how to hide waste, fraud and abuse of your tax dollars from us. That makes me burn.”
-
He elaborated a few times about how he felt growing political division was affecting Iowans. Resisting division and promoting growth was one of the points he ended the evening on.
-
“I want to work with people that I disagree with because I think it sharpens my own thinking,” Sand said. “That attitude I think is what actually helps the state of Iowa move forward together rather than the divisive crap that people just roll their eyes at.”

“One of the things we’re hearing a lot is frustration with rising costs, and a sense that politics is no longer about actually solving people’s problems, but it seems to be focused on serving insiders and special interest groups.”
-
“The more time that insiders spend trying to figure out ways to hide documents from the auditor’s office, they’re not spending time solving people’s problems, and so that’s how we end up as 49th in the country in economic growth, 48th in the country in personal income growth, and number one for the growth rate for cancer.”

“I think people are very much concerned about the state of the economy. We are 49th in the country for economic growth, according to the Trump Administration, and 48th for personal income growth. People are worried about cancer; we are the number one state when it comes to the growth rate for cancer, right? So, we’re literally losing the contests that you want to win and winning the ones that you want to lose, after 10 years of one-party control in the state of Iowa,” said Sand.

Sand said there needs to be more bipartisanship in Iowa. He will continue his 100 town hall tour on August 4 by making stops in six counties.
