Rob Sand and Dave Muhlbauer Sprint Through Finish Line on “Iowa For All” Tour
DES MOINES, IA – This week, nominee for governor Rob Sand continued his sprint to election day alongside nominee for lieutenant governor Dave Muhlbauer on their “Iowa For All” tour. In the final days of the campaign, Rob and Dave continue to travel across the state, making the case for Iowa to return to its longstanding tradition of divided government. At every stop, Rob and Dave have highlighted their comprehensive plans to solve Iowa’s crises of corruption, cancer, and costs, emphasizing that tackling these challenges takes more than one person or one party.

KGAN: Rob Sand and Dave Muhlbauer campaign together in central Iowa days before election

- With Election Day just days away, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Rob Sand and his running mate, Dave Muhlbauer, campaigned together in central Iowa, calling for a change in direction after nearly a decade of Republican control of state government.
- “Our state right now has lost its way. Our state government has lost its way,” Sand said. “We are at the bottom for economic growth. We are at the top for cancer growth.”
- The candidates highlighted priorities including addressing Iowa’s high cancer rates, lowering costs for farmers and improving public education.
- “If it’s a good idea we don’t care where it comes from,” Muhlbauer said. “We care that it’ll help all Iowans. Make Iowa healthier, stronger and a better place.”
The Daily Iowan: Sand rallies Iowa City voters before midterm election
- Less than a week out from the midterm election, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Rob Sand walked around ReUnion Brewery shaking University of Iowa students’ hands and taking selfies to send to their moms.
- Sand called attendees to be part of a movement with the little time they have left.
- “Please, if you’re thinking about what you’re going to do this weekend, put it to good use. You can be on the Ped Mall, but you can be there with a clipboard, right? You can be on the Ped Mall with a bunch of door hangers, handing them out to people to remind them to vote,” he said.
- Morgan Eyanson-Renken, a second-year student at the University of Iowa and attendee of the event, has already voted for Sand. She said she chose to vote for him because he actually represents the majority of people who live in Iowa.
- Eyanson-Renken said she felt like Republicans and Democrats have focused on the minority group of people who don’t represent the majority of Iowans and doesn’t think Iowans can make progress if everyone thinks the same way.
- Eden Reicherts, a first-year student at the UI, reflected similar sentiments and said she appreciated how he took all Iowans into account.
- “If we want everyone to be represented, we need all parties,” she said.
Little Village: Rob Sand encourages UI students to be ‘part of this movement’ and change the direction of the state
- “We have one week to change the direction of the state of Iowa,” Rob Sand said at a get-out-the-vote event in Iowa City on Wednesday afternoon. “… So I’m asking you, think about what you’re doing the rest of this week, think about what you’re doing this weekend, think about what you’re doing next week.”
- “When you have too few people in charge, only representing a small group of people, they will only work for a small group of people,” Sand said. “They will not be focused on representing the interests of the entire state.”
- Sand finished his speech by encouraging the people at ReUnion to volunteer in any capacity they’re able for the final days of the campaign.
- “The single most impactful thing you can do in Iowa City to get a person to decide to vote, or to make up their mind who to vote for, is the same as anywhere else: face-to-face conversation with another human being,” he said.
- “I don’t think ‘movement’ is an overstatement,” Sand said. “We have over 3,400 Iowa Republicans that have donated to this campaign for governor. That’s actually more Iowa Republicans than my opponent has donating to his campaign.”
- Sand ended the event by inviting anyone who was interested to take a photo with him. Almost everyone did. The line stretched across the room as people waited to shake hands and speak briefly with Sand. The photo session lasted almost as long as the speech did.
