Rob Sand for Iowa

10/30/2026

DES MOINES, IA – Today, Rob Sand’s campaign for governor is announcing support from four prominent Libertarians from across the state of Iowa. Former Chair of the Libertarian Party of Iowa and former candidate for Iowa House District 36 Joe Howe, 2018 Libertarian nominee for governor Jake Porter, 2018 Libertarian candidate for Lieutenant Governor Abena Sankofa Imhotep, and 2018 Libertarian nominee for Attorney General Marco Battaglia are all supporting Rob Sand’s campaign for governor.

“As a Libertarian, I believe in individual liberty, private property rights, free markets, limited government, and accountability for those in power. I’m supporting Rob Sand because Iowa needs an end to one-party rule, election reform that gives independent and third-party candidates a fair shot, protection against eminent domain abuse, cannabis legalization, and an end to corporate welfare and crony capitalism so government serves the people—not political insiders or special interests,” said Libertarian Joe Howe.

“In 2018, I ran for governor to be a governor for all Iowans. Rob Sand is running with that same objective. Even where we disagree on issues, I trust he’ll do what’s in the best interest of Iowans. Rob understands that the two-party stronghold is detrimental, and that independents are the real majority. He has included Libertarians in policy discussions instead of kicking us off the ballot, and that willingness to work across party lines is exactly what Iowa needs,” said Libertarian and 2018 nominee for governor Jake Porter.

“I’m proud to call Rob Sand a friend, and I believe his vision for a stronger, fairer Iowa can move us forward. His commitment to economic opportunity, affordable housing, education, health care, and accountability speaks to issues that matter deeply to our families and communities. We want a governor who listens, leads with integrity, and delivers results. I encourage everyone, especially those who want to see meaningful progress for Black communities, to make your voices heard at the ballot box on November 3,” said Libertarian and 2018 candidate for Lieutenant Governor Abena Sankofa Imhotep.

“I first met Rob out on the trail when I was running for Attorney General. He was one of the few statewide candidates making an effort to get to as many Iowans as possible for forums and town halls. I have watched him consistently put principle over party. This is precisely the type of leadership that is badly needed right now. He is still doing it and he has made an effort to reach every Iowan that wants to hear from him. This is an impressive feat. Rob has my full support and I see him as being the best choice for Governor of Iowa,” said Libertarian and 2018 nominee for Attorney General Marco Battaglia.

“This campaign has always been about challenging the idea that we need to be Democrats or Republicans at all. As governor, I want to end the two-choice system and the special legal privileges of the Republican and Democratic parties that has done nothing for the state of Iowa but pit neighbors against each other and keep us divided. As governor, I’ll ensure independent voters have the same rights we’re all entitled to at the ballot box by having a single public primary and implementing approval voting. I’m thankful for the support of these community leaders who have spoken out about the harms of the two-choice system, and I look forward to bringing members of all parties together to deliver for Iowans,” said nominee for governor Rob Sand.

These endorsements come on the heels of the Sand campaign rolling out support from four prominent Republicans across the state, in addition to over 100 registered Rob-publicans announced earlier this year.

Rob Sand has made ending the two-choice system a cornerstone of his campaign for governor, releasing his “Accountability for All” plan calling for a public primary for candidates of all political parties and implementing approval voting, which allows voters to vote for as many candidates that have earned their support.
