DES MOINES, IA – Last week, candidate for governor Rob Sand announced raising a record-shattering $9.5 million in 2025 — more than doubling the previous Iowa record for the most money raised during an off-year in the state’s gubernatorial campaign history, and surpassing the only reported GOP candidate’s total by more than two-to-one.

  • Democrat Rob Sand who is running to become Iowa’s next governor announced his campaign raised more than $9.5 million dollars in 2025. According to his campaign, he received more than 115,000 donations in all of Iowa’s 99 counties. He said contributions came from Republicans, Democrats and Independents and that nearly 97% were $100 or less.
  • “I think that people are ready for something different,” Sand said. “I feel the same way. I mean, I’ve so often seen campaigns and politicians just try to rile up one party and slam the other and it doesn’t move us forward. It doesn’t do anything good for us.”

  • Rob Sand, the leading Democratic candidate for governor, raised $9.5 million last year, his campaign announced on Thursday. “A majority of the donations — two thirds — came from Iowans,” the campaign’s statement said. 
  • The campaign said Sand received donations from people in all 99 Iowa counties, “including more than 1,200 registered Republicans from 98 counties and over 4,000 ‘no party’ voters.” According to the statement, “teacher” was the most common profession listed by donors, accounting for more than 2,100 donations. The second-most common profession among donors was nurse, with more than 800 of them donating.

  • Iowa gubernatorial candidate Rob Sand announced this (Thursday) morning that his campaign raised more than $9.5 million in 2025, setting an Iowa record for the most money raised during an off-year in a governor’s race. Sand’s campaign reported more than 115,000 donations from over 64,000 individual contributors across all 99 Iowa counties. With $13.2 million cash on hand, Sand’s campaign said it enters the new year with what it calls unprecedented grassroots support.
