Rob Sand for Iowa

10/6/2026

DAVENPORT, IA – Tonight on the debate stage, Rob Sand is making the case for why he’s the only candidate in this race who will strengthen Iowa’s economy, create more opportunity, and bring down costs for hardworking Iowa families.

After a decade of one-party rule, Iowa’s economy has been on the decline. Over the last three years, Iowa’s economy has ranked towards the bottom and we have averaged 49th in the country for personal income growth, while wages remain less competitive than many of our neighboring states. When paychecks aren’t keeping up and everyday costs keep climbing, hardworking Iowans are left struggling to get by. Rob Sand is the only candidate in the race with comprehensive plans to tackle both sides of the issue: strengthen Iowa’s economy and lower costs to put more money back in Iowan’s pockets.

“After a decade of one-party rule, Iowa’s economy is falling behind and hardworking families are paying the price,” said Deputy Campaign Manager Emma O’Brien. “Zach Lahn would double down on the same failed status quo, and has stood by his party bosses over Iowa families. He supports the harmful tariffs and the ongoing war that have skyrocketed costs for hardworking Iowans on everything from gas to groceries to utilities. Rob Sand has a plan to strengthen Iowa’s economy by creating good-paying jobs, supporting small businesses and family farms, and making sure Iowans can afford to build a good life in the communities they call home. As governor, Rob will focus on making Iowa a place where our kids want to stay, businesses want to grow, and hardworking people can build a future.”

Rob’s “Affordability for All” plan focuses on putting more money back in Iowans’ pockets by tackling some of the biggest expenses in a family’s budget. His proposals would lower health care and prescription drug costs, build more housing and make homeownership more attainable for first-time homebuyers, lower utility bills, and reduce education and child care costs.

At the same time, Rob’s “Opportunities for All” plan would grow Iowa’s economy and create more opportunities for Iowans in every corner of the state. Rob would raise Iowa’s minimum wage to $12 an hour, expand his Statewide Work, Statewide Jobs program to support rural communities, support small businesses and entrepreneurs, improve high-speed internet access, strengthen Iowa’s farm economy, and invest in rural communities so more Iowans can build a good life without having to leave the place they call home.

For Rob, these challenges go hand in hand. A stronger Iowa economy means creating more opportunities for Iowans to earn a good living while making sure their paychecks go further. As governor, he’ll work to make Iowa a place where people can afford to live, raise a family, start a business, and build their future.
