Rob Sand for Iowa

8/27/2025

Rob Sand: “I picked the Democratic Party because I think that Jesus is for the little guy, and I think the Democratic Party, at its best, is for the little guy,”

JEFFERSON, IA – During a three-day, 11-stop swing across Southern, Western, and Eastern Iowa, candidate for governor Rob Sand brought his 100 Town Hall Tour to Greene County, where he spoke to a packed room of more than 90 people last Tuesday evening at the Pickaway Americana. At the town hall, Rob emphasized his goal of bringing Iowans together to make the state not redder or bluer, but better and truer — joking along the way that he hopes to “make Thanksgiving fun again.”

Read key clips below:

  • “In a democracy, politicians are supposed to answer to the people, and I take that pretty seriously,” Sand said. “By me showing up here and telling people months in advance that I’m coming, they can ask me questions, they can see what I have to say. I think we should expect that.”
  • “I picked the Democratic Party because I think that Jesus is for the little guy, and I think the Democratic Party, at its best, is for the little guy,” Sand said.
  • The Democratic candidate is more focused on making Iowa “better and truer” rather than “redder or bluer,” a slogan he’s attached to his campaign as his policy ideas do not always align with typical Democratic policies and he is not afraid to stray away from his party.
  • While discussing the political divide between Americans, friends and family, Sand joked to “make Thanksgiving fun again.” As a way to bring the room together at the beginning of the event, whether attendees were Republican, Democrat or Independent voters, Sand led the room to sing “America the Beautiful.”
