The Truer Better Agenda: Rob Sand Launches “A Healthier Iowa for All” Plan to Tackle Cancer Crisis, Improve Access to Health Care

DES MOINES, IA – Today, candidate for governor Rob Sand is rolling out “A Healthier Iowa for All” plan, the second plank of his Truer Better Agenda — a set of common-sense, bipartisan proposals aimed at improving health outcomes for Iowa families. The plan focuses on confronting Iowa’s skyrocketing cancer rates, improving our water quality, and expanding access to affordable, reliable health care across the state.

“Over the last decade of one-party rule, Iowans’ health outcomes have only worsened –  skyrocketing costs, growing cancer rates, Iowans getting kicked off of health care, rural hospitals closing their doors, and losing our next generation of health care professionals to culture wars and better opportunities elsewhere. We can’t keep going down this path,” said candidate for governor Rob Sand. “Our leaders have their heads in the sand, and would rather pretend there are no problems than take steps to solve them. That’s why I’m launching ‘A Healthier Iowa for All’ plan to help make meaningful progress. These common-sense proposals can help.” 

Rob’s “A Healthier Iowa for All” plan includes:

• Addressing – and acknowledging – Iowa’s cancer crisis by: 

  • Denying immunity for chemical companies sickening Iowans.

  • Investing in – not defunding – water quality monitors.

  • Investing in radon testing.

  • Implementing transparent manure management plans.

  • Investing in digester technology.

  • Expanding and improving current conservation programs by offering tax credits for farmers.

  • Establishing a dirty water notification system.

  • Increasing wetlands for health and habitat.

  • Establishing a Cabinet-level Cancer Task Force.

• Improving overall health outcomes for Iowans by: 

  • Reversing the privatization of Medicaid.

  • Cracking down on Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs).

  • Expanding tele-health services.

  • And rejecting culture wars, improving maternal health, and protecting Iowa jobs.

The last decade of one-party control has made health care in Iowa harder to reach, more expensive, and less reliable. Iowans are seeing the results in real time — fewer providers, rural hospitals strapped for resources, and critical services disappearing from communities that need them most. For the health of Iowa families and the future of our state, we can’t keep doing nothing — or worse, make it harder to even understand the scope of the problem.
